CONDITION: Abdominal Pain

DESCRIPTION:
Chronic abdominal pain is a common complaint of patients seeing a physician. It can indicate any one of a number of underlying problems. The pain typically persists for 3 to 6 months and affects the patient’s day-to-day activities and routines.

How does abdominal pain develop?
The diagnosis of abdominal pain can be perplexing because it often requires piecing together a medical history from a seemingly endless barrage of signs and symptoms. Abdominal pain is usually caused by problems along the digestive tract or elsewhere in the abdomen. The following are the most common causes of abdominal pain: irritable bowel syndrome, bladder infections, gallstones, colic in infants, excessive gas, endometriosis, food allergies, food poisoning, hernia, indigestion, kidney stones, lactose intolerance, menstrual cramping, ovarian cysts, pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), ulcers, uterine fibroids, viral gastroenteritis, ovarian cancer, colon cancer and stomach cancer. Abdominal pain that could indicate a potential emergency includes appendicitis, complications of diverticulitis, bowel obstruction and peritonitis.

While many of the above conditions usually respond to modern medical treatment, if abdominal pain lingers and no known source is found, injured, loose or weak ligaments may be the cause. The most commonly affected areas are where the abdominal muscles attach to the rib or pubis.

What are the symptoms of abdominal pain?
The symptoms of abdominal pain include cramping, gas pain, bloating, vomiting, constipation or diarrhea and tenderness in the abdomen, as well as rebound tenderness, in which pain increases sharply after pressure is released from the abdomen.

Conventional medical treatments may help relieve the symptoms of abdominal pain but they do not address the root of the problem. By assessing the root of the problem, as natural medicine therapies do, chronic abdominal pain can be alleviated permanently.

Discover why we believe that natural medicine treatments are the best way to treat abdominal pain and may end chronic abdominal pain forever.
