Faith vs Hope

The scenery consists of sunlight shining through the rays of the sun and a beautiful mountain landscape.

Is there a difference between faith and hope? Although they are related, they are distinctly their own thing.

Faith is having complete trust or confidence in something. Faith involves a set of facts and trusting in those facts – for example, we have faith in Jesus Christ.

Hope is built on our faith. Hope is the confident expectation that stems from our faith. A peaceful assurance that although something hasn’t happened yet, it will in due time. Hope involves desire and anticipation!

However, the thing about hope is that it is in the unseen. Romans 8:24 says, “Hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have?”

So, how can we remain hopeful when we can’t see what’s to come? We have faith, faith in our Lord, Jesus Christ!

No one said that becoming a Christian would take away all your problems and that life would be an easy ride from here on out. Troubles will still come your way, but we can find hope in uncertain times by focusing on God’s promises, seeking his comfort and guidance through scripture, remembering past experiences of answered prayers, and trusting in His power and presence.

Faith is grounded in the reality of the past, while hope is looking to the reality of the future. Without faith, there is no hope, and without hope, there is no true faith.

Where is your faith and what are you hopeful for?
