Have lies have been told about you? Do you feel you were unfairly fired from your job? Were promises broken? At some point in our lives, we will all feel the pangs of being wronged. And when we are, it’s natural to be angry and to want justice. But justice isn’t always possible on this side of heaven. You may even have good reason to be seething, but the anger can eat you up. And while your feelings are understandable, clinging to them is not the best thing. It will simply rob your joy and sense of closeness with others. Don’t get stuck in the quicksand of painful emotions.

What can you do to avoid being consumed by anger and the feelings of being wronged? First, choose what’s right. You can hold onto anger and exist in a prison of bitterness, or you can choose to forgive. Yes, it happened, and it was unfair, but the mental gymnastics are just stealing from your life now. Stop fighting the fact that it happened and choose to participate in your future, rather than getting stuck in the past. Responding negatively will only negatively transform you! Act in a way that will make you feel proud of yourself a year or so from now. What a great way to make steps towards healing!

Take time to soothe yourself and heal. Spend time with positive, supportive, and healing people. Do fun stuff! Laugh! Focus on nurturing activities, and take care of yourself by staying active, eating healthy and getting enough sleep. It’s probably inevitable and unavoidable that we’ll get hurt in this life, and we may never quite understand. But be the one to make the world a better place. Nurture yourself, nurture others, and use it to become a stronger, happier and heathier you.
