Our wonderful team member Rachell who many of you see when you check in at the Hauser Neck Center often says, “remember, treatment progress is like a crockpot, not a microwave!”
She often speaks to patients seated in the reception area. She loves when the patients speak to each other about their progress or their diagnoses or sometimes just sharing about their lives. Friendships have been born in that reception area. Many patients exchange phone numbers and become a source of encouragement and hope for one another. We just love this!
We all know that everyone heals at different rates, each person’s situation is different. However, one point to remember for everyone is that healing happens incrementally. Over time, improvements are seen in your ability to do certain things you were unable to do prior to your injury. Certain symptoms lessen as time goes on. But typically, it is not a one-and-done situation. We are not giving steroid shots that block the pain – and unfortunately, also block healing and further the degenerative process.
Prolotherapy stimulates the body to heal. This means that new tissue is being laid down so that the ligaments and tendons are strengthened and tightened. This takes some time. Sometimes your muscles have compensated for the underlying ligament injury, so they are tight and imbalanced. It takes some time to retrain those muscles to do what they were meant to do – move the body.
We encourage you to look for the little signs.
- Less frequent headaches?
- Able to stand for longer periods of time without fatigue or pain?
- Can walk longer distances without pain?
- Less brain fog?
- Reduced pain medications (or decreased the frequency)?
- Less anxiety?
All these little improvements add up to the one day when you realize that most of your symptoms are gone.
We want to encourage you not to give up.
Stay strong.
Keep moving forward.
Do your part in the healing process.
And cherish the little signs!
