Mobility Matters!

In a world where staying active means staying lively, looking after your ability to move freely is key to feeling your best. Mobility isn’t just for the young or the old—it’s for everyone, no matter where you are in life’s journey.

Kelly Starrett and Juliet Starrett, J.D., have a beautiful way of describing mobility. They see it as “the perfect mix of everything that lets you move smoothly and freely through your day and through life.”

Mobility isn’t just about physical movement but also about gracefully handling all the twists and turns life throws your way. Mobility is the freedom to move easily through your day – it’s like a mix of strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination that lets you do your daily tasks with ease. Simple tests like going from sitting on the floor to standing up can show a lot about how well you move and how healthy you are overall.

The cool thing about mobility is that it’s universal. It’s not about how old you are or how fit you may be. It’s about taking care of yourself for the long haul. Being able to move well is a gift that lets you enjoy life to the fullest, no matter your age.

For older folks, staying mobile is super important for keeping your independence, staying safe, and enjoying life more. By doing gentle exercises, stretching, and being mindful of how you move, you can keep doing what you love and feel strong and empowered.

On the other hand, young adults have a whole world in front of them. For them, mobility is about trying new things, pushing their limits, and being the best they can be. By staying active, being mindful of their posture (because we all know that’s important!!), and learning how to move well, they’re setting themselves up for a healthy and energetic life.

So, whether you’re 75 years young or the ripe age of 18 mobility matters in all stages of life and being able to move freely is about more than just your body—it’s about celebrating the joy of movement and the strength of the human spirit. It’s a journey towards a life full of energy, health, and endless possibilities.

So kick off your shoes, stand tall, and dive into the adventure of staying mobile, no matter your age!

Test your mobility!!

Sit and Rise Test:

Find a clear space, stand with one foot crossed over the other, and without grasping onto anything (unless you feel extremely unstable), bend your knees and descend to the floor until you’re seated in a cross-legged pose. Next, starting from this seated position, lean forward with your hands extended in front of you to maintain balance, and attempt to stand up from the floor—ideally, without relying on your hands or knees or any external support.
