Do You Wake Up Happy?

happy

It is not normal to wake up tired and exhausted. Imagine all that we can accomplish when we wake up happy and refreshed? We need to be intentional, because it does not get easier as we age! Let’s take charge of our happiness!

Wake up with purpose. Why do you get up in the morning? Remember being excited to take a vacation? We want this feeling all the time! Dream big. Create a reason to JUMP out of bed! SO many great opportunities exist in SW FL for work, exercise, volunteering, cooking, sharing and caring for others. Get plugged in.

Get enough sleep which we know is correlated with mood and energy. Studies show we need at least 7-8 hours but with age, we may need more. Those who live the longest get good sleep each night. Keep your energy high to accomplish more by getting enough sleep.

Smile the first thing in the morning. Studies show that smiling makes you happier. We notice our patients who frown are often unhappy people. Put a grin on your face and say, “today is going to be a great day!”

Drink enough water, especially when first rising. Hydrating first thing in the morning makes us feel better!

Make your bed! (Have you read that book?) This creates a sense of accomplishment first thing in the morning! Feel good about it.

Move! Exercising first is the key to many successful people’s lives. Being extremely busy but making the time to exercise makes us more productive and produces happy hormones (endorphins.)

Break the fast! As mom said, “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.” Skipping breakfast = tiredness because the body remains in hibernation from sleep. We need energy to tackle the day ahead. Oh happy day!
